Meri Bhavna (My Prayer)

Meri Bhavna (My Prayer)

He, who has subdued his passions and desires, who has realized the secret of the Universe in its entirety,

He, who has preached the Right Path of Liberation for the benefit of all in an unselfish manner,

He, who is variously called by the name of Buddha, Mahavira, Jina, Hari, Hara, Brahma, and Self,

In Him, inspired with deep devotion, may this mind of mine eternally dwell!

Those who have no longings left for sense produced pleasures,

Those who are rich in the quality of equanimity,

Those who are day and night engaged in encompassing the good of all (their own as well as that of others),

Those who undergo the severe penance of self-effacement without flinching,

Only such enlightened Saints can verily conquer the pain and misery of a mundane existence!

May I always associate with such Holy men?

May my mind be constantly occupied with their contemplation?

May the longing of my heart be to always tread in their footsteps?

May I also never cause pain to any other living being?

May I never utter any untruth?

May I never covet the wealth or wife of another, and

May I forever drink the nectar of contentment!

May I never be elated with pride?

May I never feel angry with anyone?

May I never be envious with another' luck,

May my desires ever be for dealing honestly, fairly and straight with others?

May my life and heart only delight in doing good to others to the best of my abilities!

May I always entertain a feeling of friendliness for all living beings of the world?

May the sprint of sympathy in my heart be ever bubbling for those in agony or affliction?

May I never feel angry at the vile, the vicious, and the misguided?

May there be such an understanding of things that,

May I always remain tranquil in dealing with them!

May my heart forever overflow with love at the sight of virtuous men?

May my mind rejoice always in serving them to the utmost of its power?

May I never be ungrateful, may jealousy never approach me,

May my longing be always for assimilating the virtues of others, and

May my eyes never alight on their faults!

Whether people speak well of me or with ill,

Whether wealth come to me or departs from me,

Whether I live for a long time or were to die today,

Whether any one threatens me or tempts me with riches,

In the face of all these, may my footsteps swerve not from the path of Truth!

May my mind not be puffed with pleasure or pain disturb it ever,

May the loneliness of a mountain forest or the power of a river or of a burning place never cause it to shiver?

May it remain unmoved and unshakeable, May firmness make it grow adamantine,

And display true moral strength when parted from the desired thing or united with what is undesired!

May happiness be the lot of everyone in the world?

May distress never be visited on anyone?

May we give up hatred, sin, and pride?

May the world pour forth one continuous eternal beam of delight?

May there be discourses of religion in every household,

May evil cease to be easily wrought?

May there be an increase of wisdom and merit of work, and

May men realize the purpose of human life - MOKSHA!

May distress and suffering no longer exist?

May the rains fall when and where needed,

May the kings also be righteously inclined,

May they impartially administer justice to their subjects?

May disease, epidemics, and famine cease to exist or occur?

May all the people live in eternal peace,

May the exalted Ahimsa Dharma prevail and this Gospel of mercy becomes the source of good to all!

May there be mutual love in the world,

May delusions dwell only at a distance?

May no one ever utter any unpleasant speech or harsh words?

May all become 'YUGVIR' and whole heartedly work in their country' cause,

May all understand the Laws of Truth, and

May all joyfully endure the sorrow and suffering of Life!

Om Peace! Shanti! Shanti! Shanti!
